Thanksgiving this year we decided to leave and go to our camp on Lake Sam Rayburn, TX. We love being up there, but this year we were going for a week. Here is how it went:
Saturday- Departure... Raining on our way, so we took the Texas route because we were pulling a boat and David did not want to be on the back roads in Louisiana. Before we even got to Orange, we were flagged down by a fellow traveler on I-10, we had lost a piece of luggage on the road. Well, it was a roll of fabric I had bought garage saleing that morning and I was going to use it to sew some curtains and recover a chair while at the camp with it. Well, David pulled over and ran down I-10 like an idiot and after 20 minutes, $10 down the drain, no fabric for sewing. A few miles down the road we came up to a red light and were witnesses to an accident. Well, the insurance person came out in me and I made him pull over for me to make sure everyone was ok. So, here I am running in the rain in the middle of a major intersection to check on a wreck. I am glad I did because the car that ran out in front of a truck pulling a trailer full of horses had 3 children in the car, one being an infant. All the children were fine, but the mom hit the windshield and was really beat up. I did my good samaritan act and really feel good that I did. Except, instinct kicked in and I did not think of what I would see on the other side. For all of you that know what I went through and still going through after the birth of my daughter, seeing that infant and children in the wreck was very hard. Good thing everyone was ok and I pray for them daily.
So, after all of that, we finally made it to the camp and felt great being there.
Sunday- Woke up for mass at an old Catholic church in San Augustine, TX. A beautiful old wooden church that screams the Holy Spirit. We just love the priest and the atmosphere. The only thing is going to an old church with a 13 month old, everything ECHOS. LOL After mass we made it to the grocery store to prepare for our week and Thanksgiving. After finding everything, our day was complete.
Monday- A little hung over from the night before, I stayed in bed later than I have in about a year. I wish I could say it was pleasant, but my head was hurting so bad that I could not even sleep. (Wine and Crown Royal DO NOT MIX!!!) You can thank David for that one. I was able to get out of bed around lunch time and take care of Anna and eat. Thank God for David. But, what woman doesn't want to do that every once in awhile. Well, my Dad called and said he was coming up with my grandparents to fish and show them the camp. So, I get into mode and start picking up and cleaning. They showed up early afternoon and fished before dinner. I started cooking around 4, because I knew once the sun went down and The Wheel of Fortune was over, it would be bedtime. And, I was RIGHT. David was upset because he did not get to see the kick off of Monday night football because my grandfather and dad fell asleep in the living room.
Tuesday- Fishing again early and MawMaw was ready to go home. I felt like I was taking care of 2 children. She has dimentia, but does not want to admit it. She really bonded with Anna, which was great for me to see. After they left, we slept and rested, knowing my sister and Brenna would be coming up Wed and Thursday my mom, dad and Jessica would be coming. My other sister, Rachel, and her husband, Clint, and Riley were coming up Friday.
Thanksgiving- Cooked for me, David, Anna, Melissa and Brenna. Turkey, Ham, Corn, Stuffing, Vegetables. It was not too bad for camping. Really we ate too much, but hey it was Thanksgiving.
My mom, dad and sister, Jessica, came up to camp and fish. I was so excited to see them and so was Anna.
Friday- Slept in late and was able to watch "Hairspray". Loved the movie and would love to see it on Broadway one day. A really relaxing day, eventhough Anna started a real major cold with a runny nose and cough that made me hurt.
My sister, Rachel, her husband, Clint, and Riley showed up to finish the clan. We cooked and played cards and really had a great time. Anna loved having all of her family around and learned A LOT from her cousins.
Saturday- Rain, Rain, Rain... So, we decided to all come home and enjoy the rain in our own homes. I think Anna was glad to be back in her "space" and so was mom.
Here are some pictures of our great Thanksgiving. I know everything I AM GREATFUL FOR!!!
